Pastoral Residency

What is the Pastoral Residency?

The Pastoral Residency at Christ Church Madison is a 2-year program designed to form and equip the next generation of pastors. It is intended to offer those entering the pastorate a healthy, flourishing church environment where they can get hands-on experience and prepare for a lifetime of ministry. The Residency is a full-time, paid position with full benefits.

Why does this Residency exist?

The driving motivator for this program is the words of Jesus: “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest” (Matt. 9:37-39). There is a hunger across the Midwest for a revival of word and sacrament, infused with the Holy Spirit, and a need for more vibrant churches.  In response to this, our dream is to build a spiritual house that serves as a regional hub of mission, resources and church planting. Central to this vision is raising up and investing in the next generation of leaders.
Paired with this, we believe that theological study is not enough to prepare for the unique challenges and joys of pastoral ministry.  Rather, one needs space to shadow and serve alongside seasoned clergy, while being given opportunities to lead, learn, fail, and grow.  Personally speaking, I (Fr. Scott) would never have been prepared for pastoring and church planting, were it not for the invaluable experience I received during a 2-year pastoral residency at our sending church.  We are eager to provide this same experience for future pastors.
